Korean Hip Hop

Korean hip hop is a dance style featuring freestyle or choreographed moves. The dance is typically performed to Koran hip hop music, and sometimes to K-Pop. Like hip hop dancing, Korean hip hop commonly features techniques such as breakdancing and quick footwork. The dance can be performed as part of freestyle routine, including during dance battles, or it can be choreographed for group dance competitions and performances. Korean hip hop is most often performed in a group.

What are the origins of the activity abroad and in Canada?

Korean hip hop originated in South Korea in the early 1990s, and was influenced by the emergence of hip hop in North America. Korean hip hop music and dance gained national popularity in the early 2000s, when the club and rap music scenes expanded. Korean hip hop later gained global popularity as a result of its connection with K-Pop, and became popular in the GTA in the 2010s.
